Thank you for bringing me in to discuss your current Search Engine Optimization challenges over at Extrahop.

Based on our phone call during late March, I recommend a two-month retainer followed by an ongoing open consulting / coaching agreement of 2 hours / month for a minimum of six months.

This proposal outlines the specifics around this agreement. If you are ready to move on it, we can get started heading into May, 2025.

Scope of Services

As mentioned above, I am proposing a short-term retainer followed by ongoing support services. To keep this organized, I have estimated what work will be done in each month as well as the ongoing.

Retainer Month 1: Technical SEO

20 hour retainer for Technical SEO cleanup, including the following: 1. Audit existing setup to confirm that the domain can be properly crawled and indexed (includes sitemap and robots.txt evaluation) 2. Run performance and core web vitals analyses to determine what we can do to boost speed and page experience. Generate a detailed and prioritized list for associated assistance required from developers. 3. Review existing vs. required capabilities to determine gaps, and recommend what can be automated, built, or purchased to further enable success with the website functionality and SEO-readiness 4. Advise internal team on what level of SEMrush is most appropriate to the organization's current needs 5. Complete initial assessment of Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) readiness, which is important for ranking on AI chatbot tools

Retainer Month 2: Keywords, Content, and AEO Analysis

20 hour retainer for Content/Keyword targeting and improvements as follows: 1. SEO Keyword Strategy to determine whether we are targeting the right keywords; includes competitor keyword review, assessment of terms driving traffic, and gap against desired coverage 2. On-Page Strategy to build out keyword clusters, map those topics to specific URLs / pages, and optimize accordingly 3. Internal evangelization and/or training to ensure all stakeholders understand and align with proposed strategy, including collecting and incorporating feedback from stakeholders as needed 4. Review of existing CMS template structures to optimize for SEO and AEO readiness 5. Consultation on content marketing approach to best position the domain for success with Semantic SEO as well as AI answer engines. Possible completion of N-E-E-A-T-T audit if the retainer has enough time in it to do so (highly recommended as an add on if not in the retainer)

Months 3-8: Ongoing Advisory Services

2 hour monthly retainer for a minimum six month-commitment to assist with: 1. Review of progress against established goals and objectives 2. Adjust plans as needed to improve results 3. Analyze anomalies or changes in organic performance that were not addressed in the first two-months While this is set up as a six month minimum, our ongoing advisory services convert over to month-to-month after the initial commitment ends. You can terminate these services at any time with a one calendar month of notice, as specified in our terms and conditions. Should you wish to end after the six month minimum, please notify us by the end of month 7 (e.g. if we start May 2025, months 3-8 will run from July to December).

Your Investment

While we do offer hourly consulting services at $250 / hour for strategic SEO, retainers of 10+ hours per month qualify for a 40% discount off that rate. We also offer a 20% discount off six-month minimum commitments for ongoing advisory of <10 hours. As such, the monthly investment for these services will be as indicated below. Once we convert to month-to-month, we will continue to honor this rate in perpetuity for as long as you opt to keep the services active. Should you require more than 2 hours of assistance in any of months 3-8, we will honor the 20% discount for additional hours requested and approved in writing in advance.

The firm specializes in SEO, AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), helping businesses improve visibility across both traditional search engines and emerging AI platforms.

Services include technical audits, content strategy, and performance optimization, all guided by executive-level expertise without the expense of a full-time hire. Return On Now also provides Human + AI process consulting and digital advertising management to extend marketing performance even further.

With this approach, organizations gain smarter search results and lasting business impact.

1. Engagement Scope

All services will be defined in a formal proposal or statement of work (SOW). Any additional work outside the agreed scope may require a new agreement or change order.

2. Fees and Payment

Payment terms will be outlined in the proposal. Unless otherwise agreed:

  • Project-based work requires a down payment before services will begin. You have the option of paying 50% in advance and the balance upon completion, or the full balance in advance with a 2% discount for up-front payment.

  • Retainer-based work is due on a monthly basis with net 30 payment terms, as is a'la carte hourly services.

  • Ongoing campaigns like link-building are billed on the 1st of each month due upon receipt, and must be paid in full before we will begin the process. We will forward an invoice from our accounting package (Wave) and prefer you set it to autopay upon receipt to ensure a timely kickoff of monthly services.

  • Work may be paused until outstanding balances are paid.

3. Client Responsibilities

Clients agree to provide timely access to necessary platforms, data, and decision-makers to ensure efficient project delivery. Delays caused by lack of access or approvals may affect timelines.

4. Confidentiality

Both parties agree to keep all proprietary and confidential information private and not disclose such information to any third parties without written consent.

5. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of all content and assets provided. Upon full payment, you also own all deliverables created under this agreement. We reserve the right to showcase non-confidential work for portfolio or promotional use unless otherwise requested and agreed to in advance.

6. Performance Disclaimer

While we apply best practices and data-driven strategy, SEO, AEO, GEO, and marketing, outcomes can vary due to changes in search engine algorithms, competition, and overall search behaviors. We cannot in good faith guarantee specific rankings, traffic levels, or ROI due to the nature of algorithm-based platforms and competition.

7. Termination

Project-based work should be completed as specified and mid-stream cancellations will make the full amount due immediately should the project be abandoned without cause.

For ongoing / retainer work, minimum commitments as specified in this proposal are enforceable unless we reach mutual agreement to terminate early. All other ongoing services move to month-to-month upon completion of minimum commitment, and termination requires a full calendar month of notice (i.e. to cancel on the last day of March, we need notice by the last day of February).

8. Limitation of Liability

Return On Now is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of revenue or data, arising from the services provided. We follow industry and ethical best practices and will never engage in any black hat marketing practices that could put your website and business at risk.
